About Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum
The museum is dedicated to the memory of all those who have served their country as soldiers of Gloucestershire. We have a prime location, being centrally located in the heart of the historic Gloucester Docks. The museum has been active in some form since 1972 but was refurbished and reopened in 2014 after a significant Heritage Lottery investment. The collection covers 300 hundred years of military history on every populated continent. The museum is currently in a period of seeking to expand its activities, both operational and strategic, and seeks to move to a more active, relevant, and inclusive organisation which tells the story of the making of a modern multicultural Britain through a military lens.
Role overview
The aim of this new role is to provide a consistent flow of grant funding into the museum to argument and support its earnings and to provide opportunities to improve areas of the business. Grants will be sought to support core business costs as well as to enable the museum to develop strategically through projects and other non-essential activities. Primary duties include:
- The role of the Volunteer Head of Grants will primarily be to identify, assess, and progress new grant source opportunities. We aim to apply for two to three grants a month, but this is subject to opportunities and capacity.
- In consultation with the Vice-Chair of Trustees and Museum Director, to develop, implement and plan grant opportunities in line with Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum budgetary requirements.
- Through the Museum Director, provide monthly updates to the Executive Committee on the progression of grant applications.
- Create and provide information for the subsequent monitoring and evaluation of all ongoing grant support.
