Museum Operations Director
The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum
The Historic Docks, Gloucester
Full time permanent position
£32,000 - £38,000 per annum
Working closely with a very engaged team of trustees drawn from business, finance, operations, HR and the military, as our Operations Director you will be taking prime responsibility for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the museum and its related trading activities. A key attribute of the successful candidate will be the proven ability to manage what is effectively a small business delivering both a great museum visitor experience and generating sufficient income to ensure our sustainability into the future.
In addition to this you will be playing a key role in helping our trustees and advisers to plan in detail the future direction of the museum where we have exciting plans to review the ways in which we present our heritage to become increasing relevant to 21st Century visitors.
We are a regional and fully accredited museum located in the heart of the City of Gloucester in the Historic Docks. We tell the stories, drawn from three hundred years of involvement of soldiers from our region all over the world. Of special note here is the ever-growing relationship with the Republic of Korea (South Korea), due to the pivotal role that the Gloucestershire Regiment took during the Korean War. As a result the museum has a very close relationship with the City of Paju, within the outer city limits of which the Battle of the Imjin River was fought and is also twinned with the major museum in Busan, South Korea - the United Nations Peace Memorial Hall.
With a small salaried staff, supported by very committed teams of trustees and volunteers and with growing links to the local community, the museum is looking to a vibrant future as an integral part of the cultural life of the City of Gloucester and the broader region.
